Genomic technologies such as genome selection, genome sequencing, and mutation detection all offer great opportunities for genetic improvements and gain to livestock breeding companies. Implementing these technologies is a complex task relying on close collaborations and frequent communications between staff for sampling, genotyping, data QC, analyses, and validation and finally selection of superior breeding stock. Samples numbers are large, turnaround times at all points are tight, and room for error is minimal. This presentation will highlight some opportunities at Cobb-Vantress, some current applications of genomic technologies, and rationalize those opportunities with the logistic realities of broiler breeding.
