W735Broadening the Genomic Scope for the Solanaceae: New Genome Approaches
Time: 8:20 AM
Solanaceous species comprise many important crops such as the sequenced plants tomato, potato, eggplant, pepper and tobacco (see http://plabipd.de/phylogeny_view.ep for an overview of currently sequenced plants). However, especially during the process of domestication beneficial traits might have been lost, therefore the precise definition of exotic material is necessary. Here, we present the genome of the wild tomato species Solanum pennellii and additional sequencing efforts for wild tomato relatives such as Solanum lycopersicoides .Both species are especially interesting as sets of introgression lines have been established.
In addition, we will present new data on our Physalis genome sequencing efforts and a first comparison of these plants to the other sequenced Solanaceous species.
