The Plantseed Resource for Functional Annotation and Cross-Kingdom Comparative Genomics of Plant Genomes

PlantSEED was developed as a collaboration between teams at
Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Florida
utilizing plant-specific databases to create an intensively
curated set of primary metabolic pathways that can be used to
annotate new genomes and transcriptomes of various plant
species. The data used in this work is readily available in the
SEED environment, which was initially built on bacterial
annotation. We show how we have used the SEED environment to
perform cross-kingdom comparative genomics in order to predict
the annotation of plant genes. We describe how this will support
our work on plant secondary metabolism, and how this in turn will
be of benefit to the synthetic biologists.
