Manual and Automatic Annotation of Plants and Animals in the UniProt Knowledgebase and the Gene Ontology
Date: Monday, January 12, 2015

The mission of UniProt is to provide the scientific community with a comprehensive, high-quality and freely accessible resource of protein sequence and functional information. One of the central activities is the biocuration of the UniProt Knowledgebase (UniProtKB). Biocuration involves the interpretation and integration of information relevant to biology into a database or resource that enables integration of the scientific literature as well as large data sets. In order to respond to the flood of sequencing data, UniProt provides both manual curation and automatic annotation. I will outline what we provide through the UniProtKB and the Gene Ontology project (GOA) for plants and animals and would welcome feedback from participants on areas for future development.
