Parchment manuscripts produced from the skins of livestock species
represent an invaluable cultural reservoir. High-throughput sequencing
of DNA samples extracted from these documents can provide large
quantities of genetic information about the animals that were used to
make the parchment, complimenting their evidentiary value. This talk
will present data from a number of manuscripts representing 500 years
of sheep genetic history from the county of Yorkshire in northern
Britain.
