The application of genomics in plant and animal breeding is providing new tools and strategies to enhance genetic gain. This potential is not easily exploited in many breeding programs due to challenges in funding, infrastructure, and training. In this panel discussion, we will hear examples of how genomic tools are being implemented in crop and livestock breeding programs representing diverse global contexts. The panel will include Ndiaga Cissé, ISRA-CERAAS, Senegal; Clare Mukankusi, International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), Uganda; Paul Gibson, Makerere University, Uganda; and Heather Burrow, Cooperative Research Centre for Beef Genetic Technologies, Australia. Short presentations by the panelist will be followed by a time to discuss optimal strategies for applying genomics tools and technologies in crop and livestock improvement.
