3049Animal Genomics and Adaptation to Climate Change
Climate change affects animal agriculture in many ways, including extreme weather patterns, drought, chronic or acute heat episodes, and changes in the distribution of pathogens. This issue is of contemporary interest to animal agriculture in both the developed and the developing world, and is relevant to food security and to climate change. A better understanding of the genomic and physiologic response of animals to climate change will facilitate the development of strategies to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change. Approaches may include breeding of animals that are more resilient to climate change and implementation of novel management approaches. Expert speakers will cover multiple animal species and different aspects of genomics.
