3179National Plant Genome Initiative Workshop - Challenges and Opportunities in High-Throughput Phenotyping and Data Management
The National Plant Genome Initiative (NPGI) is a national program coordinated by the Interagency Working Group on Plant Genomics (IWGPG) under the Committee on Science of the National Science and Technology Council. The NPGI goal is to develop a basic knowledge of the structures and functions of plant genomes, to translate this knowledge to a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of economically important plants and plant processes, and thus accelerate basic discovery and innovation in economically important plants. Since 1998, NPGI has been a leading advocate for openly accessible data and genetic resources, interagency coordination, rigorous and competitive scientific peer review, and public-private international partnerships.
The NPGI workshop is a forum for the crop genomics and genetics research community to meet with IWGPG agencies (i.e. NSF, DOE, USDA, and USAID) to discuss key research challenges and critical resource needs for advancing plant science research in the United States and for its translation to agriculture. One of these challenges, high-throughput phenotyping, is critical to the translation of genomic discoveries to the field and presents a bottleneck towards this endeavor. In this workshop, six researchers from the community who are currently engaged in the development and use of HTP phenotyping platforms will give brief presentations to stimulate discussion of critical research and strategic resource needs in this area, including cyberinfrastructure and data management. Community input is sought as the workshop will conclude with 35 minutes of discussion among the audience.
All are welcome to attend and participate!
