The number and location of recombination events vary among individuals. The most commonly used methods to identify the genes underlying traits assume that recombination frequencies are consistent across families. In this project we used a six-row spring barley NAM population of 2,505 RILs representing 40 families to characterize recombination patterns in spring barley. A combination of exome capture and genotyping-by-sequencing technology were used to collect dense genome-wide single-nucleotide polymorphism data. We also explore the usage of recombination events captured in these families to identify quantitative trait loci that controls genome-wide recombination frequencies.
