The next-generation sequencing technology and novel genome assembly methodology have generated a deluge of h3 igh quality genomic data from animals of Caprinae, including domesticated goat, sheep, and their wild ancestors, which have simultaneously broadened our understanding of domestication of livestock. Whole genome re-sequencing data for different breeds of goat and sheep provide us an informative data to study the genic and genomic mechanism for variation and economic traits. To integrate the published and unpublished Caprinae genomic data, and provide a more easily/friendly usable and available, we propose Caprinae Genome Database (CGD, http://caprinae.kiz.ac.cn), the first Caprinae genome database for domesticated goat\sheep and wild Caprinae species. Up to now, this database provides detailed information of several species of Caprinae, covering various aspects—genomic and transcriptomic data, whole genome re-sequencing data (SNPs). Designed as a basic platform, CGD strives to provide a comprehensive knowledgebase about goats/sheep and present the goat genome and related information in systematic ways for the convenience of in-depth comparative studies and genome assistance breeding for goats and sheep.
