Development of New Rapeseed Varieties by Interspecies Crossing
Based on genetic background studies, B. rapa, B. nigra and B. oleracea belong to Brassica genome and are known as A, B and C genome, respectively. Interspecific hybridization was extensively used to develop new varieties which have useful traits in biotic and abiotic benefits such as drought tolerance and higher oil content.
We reported new variety 'Da-Ae (WO2015102130 A1)' obtain by the crossing B. rapa and B. oleracea. In addition, we have developed new variety B. juncea 'Mi-So' by crossing B. napus and B. juncea. In this study, we have developed a new varieties of oilseed rape from interspecific hybrid (B. napus 'Naehan' X B. juncea 'Mi-so'). The developed varieties have early flowering, increased seed size, low erucic acid content, and high oleic acid content. They are expected to be useful in industry.
