4236Increasing Genetic Gains for Food Security in the Developing World
Panel will discuss two themes: challenges and opportunities. Drawing from a Pre-Workshop global AgExchange Consultation, key challenges for breeders to accelerate progress in RTB and legumes breeding will be enumerated, and communicated to the session. Additional points will be solicited from the audience and offered to the panel to provide their reflections. Topics could include challenges to data management, low cost high throughput phenotyping, genotyping, etc. After clarification and reflection on these challenges by the panel, which will further define which ones can be addressed with solutions/approaches offered by PAG attendees, the conversation will pivot to the next topic “What opportunities are there for tool development and partnerships to accelerate breeding in roots, tubers, bananas (RTB) and legumes?” Questions/ideas/comments will be elicited from the audience and panelists for a set of themes. The moderators will ask the audience to focus on a particular challenge identified in Topic 1, and provide responses in writing or through the AgExchange site in real time for others to see and discuss. Comments and questions from the audience will be offered to the panel to discuss and respond. A continuous dialog between the panel and audience will be engendered to gather information that can inform investments by USAID and other funders to achieve accelerated breeding in RTB and legumes.
