Advancements in Physics-based, Integrated Hydrologic Modeling to Support Water Resources Management
Session ID#: 247120
Session Description:
Physics-based, integrated hydrologic modeling has long been a fundamental tool in hydrologic sciences and the management of water resources. As high-performance computing continues to evolve and high-resolution observational data becomes increasingly accessible, new and exciting opportunities are emerging to significantly enhance the capabilities of integrated hydrologic models. These advancements offer the potential to reimagine how we approach the complexity of hydrological systems, enabling more accurate predictions. This session will explore the development of advanced modeling techniques and their applications, with a focus on integrating hydrologic processes across diverse ecosystems. We invite submissions that examine processes frequently oversimplified in conventional hydrologic models, e.g., snow/glacier dynamics, disturbance impacts, plant physiological functions, fully-coupled groundwater-surface water processes, interplays between water-human systems. The deeper insights gained from addressing these often-overlooked processes will contribute to the development of more robust and effective water resources management strategies, better suited for tackling the complexities of modern environmental challenges.
