Fundamental Mechanisms in Highly Collisionless Plasmas: Wave-Particle Interactions, Turbulence, Structures, and Instabilities with Applications to Heliospheric, Magnetospheric, and Laboratory Plasma Physics

Session ID#: 248034

Session Description:
Heliosphere and Planetary Magnetospheres are excellent laboratories for in-situ measurements of astrophysical plasmas, allowing investigation of the core processes of plasma physics. These measurements help to delve into key aspects of plasma physics, energy transport across large spatial scales, flow shears of strong field gradients, energy exchange between different scales, and energy conversion between fields and particles. This includes mechanisms of evolution of waves, turbulence, structures, and instabilities. The wide range of temporal and spatial scales makes these processes essential to scientific advancement, spanning global heliospheric and magnetospheric structure to kinetic processes at sub-ionic and sub-electron scales. This session brings together contributions on theory, observations, modeling, numerical simulations, and laboratory plasmas, along with other key processes in the planetary heliosphere and magnetosphere. This session will provide a framework to discuss results and exchange ideas between observational and theoretical aspects of wave-particle interactions in different space- and laboratory plasma systems.
