Fundamental Physics of the Solar Corona and Inner Heliosphere
Fundamental Physics of the Solar Corona and Inner Heliosphere
Session ID#: 247808
Session Description:
The physical processes occurring in the solar corona and inner heliosphere play a critical role in shaping the space environment surrounding the Earth. We are currently in an unprecedented epoch for heliophysic research, driven by groundbreaking space missions like Parker Solar Probe and Solar Orbiter, along with rapid advancements in computational capabilities. This session invites contributions that advance our understanding of the key physical processes in the solar corona and inner heliosphere. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: What mechanisms heat the solar corona and accelerate the solar wind? How and where are different types of solar wind streams generated, and what physical processes determine their properties? What are the origins of magnetic switchbacks, and how do they contribute to solar wind acceleration? We welcome all types of studies—observational, theoretical, and numerical—that contribute to these and related questions.
