Earth Science data stewardship in the cloud
Earth Science data stewardship in the cloud
Session ID#: 248281
Session Description:
US agencies involved in the stewardship and management of earth science data have been migrating that data to the cloud for many years. With that experience has come a reevaluation of the risks and mitigations associated with preserving and protecting those archives. Cloud-based stewardship presents common, evolving and completely new risks when compared to an on-premises archive. But the cloud also provides new mitigations to the traditional risks associated with data stewardship.Additionally, the sheer scale of our archives present new problems to long-term archival. As stewards of this data it is the various agencies' responsibility to maintain and protect those archives now and into the future. How will the cloud help us in this regard? We invite agencies, organizations and individuals to present their experiences with cloud archive stewardship and their plans for the future so that we can learn and provide better solutions to our community.
