Session Proposal: Leveraging Distributed Fiber-Optic Sensing for Energy and Security Monitoring (AGU25)

S015
Leveraging Distributed Fiber-Optic Sensing for Energy and Security Monitoring

Session ID#: 249008

Session Description:
Distributed Fiber-Optic Sensing (DFOS) technologies, including Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS), and Distributed Strain Sensing (DSS), are revolutionizing energy and security monitoring by enabling dense, long-range, real-time measurements in challenging environments. This session invites contributions that apply DFOS to effective monitoring, whether for underground explosions, geothermal production, hydrocarbon extraction, carbon sequestration, seismic hazard, infrastructure and facility monitoring, or tracking of moving sources. We welcome advances in signal processing, machine learning, real-time analytics, signal detection, phase identification, event formation and location, magnitude estimation, and event classification that support operational monitoring at scale. Topics may also include sensor array design, deployment strategies, large-volume data handling, and validation with external datasets. Submissions addressing both anthropogenic and natural signals are encouraged, as well as work that demonstrates integrated, end-to-end workflows tailored to energy and security needs.
