Fog in Tropical Mountains, Islands, and Forests
Fog in Tropical Mountains, Islands, and Forests
Session ID#: 249237
Session Description:
Fog plays a unique role in ecosystems such as cloud forests that are found on tropical mountains, mountainous islands, and coastal regions. The presence of fog not only modifies the microenvironment with effects on vegetation and other organisms, but when driven by wind can add significant water input to ecosystems and watersheds through cloud water interception (CWI) by vegetation. We welcome abstracts on the observation, modeling, and prediction of fog and CWI as well as studies related to the influence of fog on biotic and abiotic processes at all scales. Example of topics include, but are not limited to, use of machine learning to analyze digital images of fog, fog gauge methods, fog harvesting technology, remote sensing and numerical model simulation of fog over heterogeneous landscapes, factors affecting fog variation and characteristics, and CWI and associated ecophysiological and hydrological processes.
