Global Assessment of Distributed Energy Resources Using Community Mapping, Image Analysis, and Remote Sensing Techniques
Global Assessment of Distributed Energy Resources Using Community Mapping, Image Analysis, and Remote Sensing Techniques
Session ID#: 249682
Session Description:
As global consumers reduce dependence on fossil fuels in favor of electricity generated from and stored using renewable resources, the carbon-heavy supporting infrastructure is being replaced by distributed energy resources (DERs). These systems are typically locally installed and owned, light in footprint, and woven into the fabric of communities. They are also inherently hard to track. Market planning requires aggregation of global data on rooftop and community solar, agricultural geothermal systems, micro-grids, and other DER components. We invite scientists working from the ground to the Earth’s orbit to submit studies on new and existing technologies including but not limited to Graphic Information System (GIS) mapping, image analysis, remote sensing, and other ways in which we document the rapid uptake of renewable energy by society. Policy makers need Earth and space scientists to capture infrastructure data where it lives - with the people who are using energy.
