Session Proposal: Physics of Fluids in Unconventional Reservoir Rocks (AGU25)

MR008
Physics of Fluids in Unconventional Reservoir Rocks

Session ID#: 249968

Session Description:
Sedimentary and volcanic unconventional reservoirs are being explored and produced around the world and have become one of the major contributors to energy supplies. Accordingly, investigating flow and transport in such reservoirs has been an active subject of research with numerous practical applications, particularly in oil/gas and critical minerals exploration and production. We, however, are still far from fully understanding mechanisms of transport at various scales in these nanoporous rocks. In this session, we aim to provide an opportunity for recent developments and applications of unconventional techniques to mudrocks and other unconventional lithologies (e.g., basalts and other mafic/ultramafic rocks). The potential topics include, but are not limited to: Theories and simulations, Digital rock physics, Multi-phase flow, Decline curve analysis, Non-Darcy flow, Hydraulic fracturing, Upscaling flow phenomena, Pore structural properties, Resource recovery, Multiscale and multiresolution modeling, Stress- and scale-dependences of petrophysical quantities, Measurement of flow parameters, Multi-physical methods, Machine learning
