Innovative Approaches to Understanding Infiltration Processes Across Scales and its Applications in Real Life Engineering Hydrological Projects Conforming to UN's Sustainable Development Goals

Session ID#: 250531

Session Description:
Infiltration is a key hydrological process governing surface-subsurface interactions, soil moisture storage, and groundwater recharge. Its critical role in the hydrologic cycle makes it central to water balance estimation, irrigation design, flood and drought mitigation, contaminant transport modeling, and watershed management. This session invites contributions that advance the understanding of infiltration processes through experimental, theoretical, or modeling approaches. We welcome studies employing both conventional and innovative measurement techniques, sensor-based tools, inverse modeling, and machine learning. Emphasis will be placed on real-life engineering hydrological applications such as rainwater harvesting, artificial recharge, and green infrastructure. Research addressing spatial–temporal variability, scale-dependent behavior, and impacts of land use or climate change is encouraged. Contributions that demonstrate the application of infiltration knowledge in climate-resilient water management are valued. The session aims to promote interdisciplinary discussion on how infiltration insights can inform sustainable, climate-resilient water management solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
