Innovative measurement technologies, characterization methodologies and modeling techniques for emerging contaminants
Innovative measurement technologies, characterization methodologies and modeling techniques for emerging contaminants
Session ID#: 250777
Session Description:
Emerging contaminants of concern such as PFAS, 6-PPD, pharmaceuticals, and microplastics are distinguished by one or more of the factors: low environmental concentrations, presence in multiple media, non-point sources, and evolving understanding of their impact to human health and biota. These factors coupled with lack of in-situ measurement/detection tools/technologies pose challenges to our understanding of their fate & transport in the environment. This session seeks an interdisciplinary discussion of emerging contaminants in soil, groundwater and surface water, and opportunistic strategies for targeting their concurrent presence in wastewater and runoff, leveraging existing tools and conceptual site models of legacy contaminants. We invite contributions focused on (1) integrated conceptual models (2) innovative lab-scale measurement technologies (3) field-scale monitoring and characterization methodologies (4) computational fate & transport models.
