Advance in remote sensing and modeling of tree and forest dynamics
Advance in remote sensing and modeling of tree and forest dynamics
Session ID#: 251005
Session Description:
Trees and forests provide essential ecosystem goods and services. Deforestation, reforestation, afforestation, woody plant encroachment (WPE) into grasslands, and tree-based urban greening have occurred across the scales from local to region and globe, which have substantial impacts on terrestrial carbon and water cycles, weather, climate, and other ecosystem services. This session aims to highlight recent advancements in remote sensing and modeling of tree and forest cover dynamics. It seeks presentations that (1) use multiple-source remote sensing datasets and novel techniques to quantify tree and forest area dynamics at local, regional and global scales; (2) investigate diverse factors driving the tree and forest area dynamics; (3) assess the impacts of the tree and forest area dynamics on weather, climate, and water cycle; and (4) predict carbon fluxes and stocks of trees and forests and their contribution to the dynamics of atmospheric greenhouse gases concentration.
