Session Proposal: Advancing Integrated Modeling of the Water-Energy-Food-Environment (WEFE) Nexus under a Changing Climate (AGU25)

H031
Advancing Integrated Modeling of the Water-Energy-Food-Environment (WEFE) Nexus under a Changing Climate

Session ID#: 251453

Session Description:
The accelerating impacts of climate change are reshaping the dynamics of water, energy, and food systems, intensifying resource interdependencies, and challenging conventional resource planning approaches. To navigate this complexity, decision-makers increasingly need integrated modeling frameworks that reflect cross-sectoral linkages and support evidence-based policy formulation. This session focuses on advancing tools and methodologies that couple hydrologic, energy, agricultural, and economic models to evaluate WEFE nexus trade-offs under climate uncertainty. We invite contributions that:Develop or apply coupled models capturing interactions among WEFE systems under climate variabilityIntegrate stakeholder input and multi-criteria approaches into WEF modeling and scenario planningAssess nexus trade-offs across scales, including transboundary and rural-urban contextsPresent global case studies that link modeling insights to practical policy outcomesCapacity sharing to strengthen champions for developing cross-sectoral collaborations. This session aims to unite researchers, policymakers, and practitioners working to operationalize nexus thinking through quantitative tools and cross-sectoral collaboration.
