Advancing Remote Sensing of Forest and Ecosystem Health Across Scales

Session Description:
Remote sensing is transforming the characterization of forest and ecosystem health across spatial scales, from individual tree condition to landscape-level patterns of disturbance and carbon dynamics. Emerging observations from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), airborne, and satellite platforms provide new opportunities to detect disease, structural change, and environmental stress while advancing scalable ecosystem monitoring.

This session invites contributions that use optical, hyperspectral, thermal, light detection and ranging (LiDAR), and synthetic aperture radar (SAR), as well as multi-sensor approaches, to assess forest structure, health, disturbance, and carbon-related processes. We welcome studies that integrate remote sensing with field data, ecological modeling, and management and decision-making applications, as well as work addressing key challenges related to scaling, uncertainty, and model transferability across ecosystems.
