Assessing Tropical Cyclone Hazards in a Changing Climate System

Session Description:
Ongoing changes in the climate system are altering tropical cyclone hazards and impacts. This session invites contributions examining how tropical cyclone activity and hazards evolve under climate variability and change. We welcome studies advancing understanding of changes in tropical cyclone characteristics and hazards, including shifts in frequency, tracks, size, structure, rapid intensification, and hazards such as extreme winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge, coastal inundation, high waves, and compound flooding and heat. We also encourage studies on how changes in large-scale environmental conditions and climate variability influence tropical cyclone hazards. These may include sea surface temperature patterns, atmospheric circulation, vertical wind shear, and modes such as ENSO, AMM, AMV, IOD, and PDO/IPO. Contributions using observational, modeling, statistical, and machine learning approaches to detect, attribute, and predict these changes, as well as studies on subseasonal to seasonal prediction, historical trends, and long-term projections, are welcome.
