Actions to reduce greenhouse gases can advance climate mitigation and provide additional benefits for air and water quality, physical activity, nutrition, urban form, and community resilience as well as energy, housing, and transportation costs. These benefits, also called “co-benefits” or “ancillary benefits,” have been used to motivate support among policymakers and the public for ambitious climate actions that also address major public health challenges.

We invite submissions on the health effects of climate mitigation from local to global scales in energy, transport, buildings, industry, agriculture, and natural systems. Possible topics include observational or modeling studies quantifying benefits of climate actions or costs of delayed actions, analysis of the health equity implications of climate actions, research on how health framings can affect support for climate action, and potential tradeoffs and implementation barriers. This session aims to highlight the breadth and depth of the health effects of climate mitigation across scientific disciplines.
