Advances in Monitoring, Forecasting, and Mitigating Induced Seismicity in Geo-Energy Systems

Session Description:
Induced seismicity remains a key challenge across a wide range of subsurface energy applications, including geothermal energy, carbon storage, hydrogen and energy storage, hydrocarbon production, wastewater disposal, and related geo-energy operations. As these technologies expand, there is an increasing need to better understand the physical mechanisms controlling induced and triggered seismicity and to develop reliable strategies for monitoring, forecasting, and risk reduction. This session invites contributions that address processes such as pore-pressure diffusion, poroelastic stressing, aseismic deformation, fault reactivation, and dynamic rupture, as well as operational approaches for hazard assessment and mitigation. We welcome studies involving real-time seismic monitoring, traffic-light systems, laboratory experiments, field observations, fault mechanics, coupled hydromechanical and geomechanical modeling, statistical and machine-learning methods, ground-motion and hazard assessment, and case studies from geothermal, CCS, hydrocarbon, and subsurface energy storage projects. Contributions from geophysics, geology, hydrology, geodesy, geomechanics, and related disciplines are encouraged.
