Advances in Monitoring, Modeling, and Performance Assessment of Best Management Practices for Improved Watershed Management

Best Management Practices (BMPs) are critical tools for mitigating nutrient, sediment, and contaminant loading across urban and agricultural watersheds, while also improving crop productivity, water availability, and soil health. Despite their importance, their hydrological, biogeochemical, and agronomic impacts remain poorly constrained, particularly under extreme events such as droughts, floods, and snowmelt-driven runoff. This session invites contributions examining BMP performance across spatial scales, from field to watershed, in both urban and agricultural systems. We encourage studies integrating field observations, remote sensing, Artificial Intelligence, and process-based models to evaluate BMP effectiveness and resilience. Contributions considering BMP impacts in prairie pothole and other flat, low-relief watersheds, and the development of transferrable metrics for quantifying BMP effectiveness are especially encouraged.
