Where Land Meets Water: Biogeochemical Cycling at the Terrestrial-Aquatic Interface

Session Description:
The terrestrial-aquatic interface (TAI) spans diverse ecosystems where dynamic hydrologic exchanges drive complex biogeochemical responses. The mechanisms that mediate TAI processes, including interactions among soil chemistry, hydrology, microbes, and plant communities, remain poorly understood. We aim to facilitate a discussion of processes occurring in coastal and inland TAIs across spatial and temporal scales using field, laboratory, and modeling case studies with a particular emphasis on model-experiment integration and AI/ML-enabled approaches. We encourage interdisciplinary submissions focused on topics related to hydrological, chemical, and/or biochemical processes occurring in response to TAI disturbances and hydrological forcings such as sea level rise, storm surges, and droughts. Our goal is to gain a stronger understanding of the cutting edge of TAI science, with emphasis on how these interfaces are responding to environmental stressors and disturbances.
