Enhanced Weathering for Carbon Dioxide Removal: From Source to Sink

Session Description:
Enhanced weathering (EW) is gaining attention as a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) strategy with potential for large-scale deployment. However, key uncertainties remain regarding process durability of carbon sequestration and CDR losses, robust monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV), and the response of soil organic carbon stocks. This session brings together perspectives spanning laboratory experiments, field trials, modeling, and deployment to assess the efficacy, risks, and co-benefits of EW across spatial and temporal scales. We welcome contributions across disciplines, including geochemistry, soil science, agronomy, hydrology, ecology, focused studies on specific processes or system components as well as insights on the policy and public perception dimensions of ERW. Submissions that link process understanding to scalable and verifiable CDR, life cycle analysis, as well as work on MRV, carbon accounting, and environmental and social impacts, are particularly encouraged.
