Human Footprints on Landscapes: Observations, Models, and Data Integration

Session Description:
Human activities, including land-use/land-cover change, resource extraction, and urbanization, are reshaping landscape structure, function, biodiversity, and biogeochemical cycles at an unprecedented pace. Understanding these transformations from site to global scales is critical for predicting ecosystem trajectories and informing sustainable land management. This session invites contributions examining how anthropogenic pressures drive ecological and biodiversity change across landscapes. Topics of interest include:

land-cover and land-use change such as deforestation, urbanization, and agriculture, and impacts on ecosystem processes and biodiversity

disturbance regimes influenced by human activities, including fire, logging, and water management, and effects on species composition and ecosystem resilience

alterations to nutrient, carbon, water, and energy cycles from anthropogenic pressures

habitat fragmentation, spatial pattern dynamics, and consequences for biodiversity and ecosystem functioning

We welcome studies integrating remote sensing, in situ observations, theoretical frameworks, or modeling to quantify past, present, and future human impacts on landscapes. Cross-scale and cross-disciplinary contributions are especially encouraged.
