Remote Sensing Modeling in Altered Ecosystems: Multi-Sensor Integration for Human-Shaped Landscapes and Management Implications

Session Description:
Urbanization and anthropogenic factors transform natural environments into complex, built-up landscapes and exacerbate critical management challenges, such as increased urban flooding, diminished coastal resilience, and intensification of urban heat islands. Management solutions to these rising community challenges require versatile approaches, like remote sensing, as a proven diagnostic measure and useful tool for adaptive insight. This session examines the intersection of advanced geospatial modeling across human-shaped landscapes over time, through the use of diverse data sources, such as optical, LiDAR, and SAR, as well as other environmental data, to better examine infrastructure resilience and ecosystem services, including economic sustainability, in rapidly growing communities. We are keen to welcome a wide range of submissions from geospatial practitioners, academics, and land managers who are using remote sensing technologies. In particular, we are seeking submissions that highlight innovative work leveraging long-term monitoring or predictive AI, as well as actionable policy and management suggestions.
