Advances in Seismic Imaging and Source Characterization Across Scales: Adjoint Tomography and Wave-Equation Approaches

Session Description:
This session invites contributions on seismic imaging and source characterization across scales, from crustal and lithospheric structure to mantle heterogeneity and deep Earth dynamics. We welcome studies using earthquake, ambient-noise, teleseismic, and scattered-wave observations to advance adjoint tomography, wave-equation-based imaging, and the physical interpretation of Earth structure and dynamics. Topics include adjoint tomography, spectral-element and related numerical methods, joint imaging with diverse seismic datasets, multiparameter imaging of anisotropy, attenuation, and discontinuities, seismic source characterization, nonlinear inversion and optimization, model resolution, and uncertainty quantification. By bringing together observational, theoretical, and computational perspectives, this session aims to foster exchange among researchers working on seismic imaging and source characterization.
