Bridging Oceanographic Disciplines Using Observations from Repeat Hydrography

Session Description:
Repeat hydrographic observations have formed the basis for large-scale oceanographic research for over 35 years, from WOCE/JGOFS to CLIVAR to GO-SHIP/Bio-GO-SHIP. These programs routinely encompass an array of physical, chemical, and biological measurements that fuel numerous avenues of research including anthropogenic carbon uptake, deep warming, ocean acidification, changes in circulation patterns and transport, deoxygenation, plankton diversity, and biologically-driven carbon export. GO-SHIP partnerships with other long-term observational networks, such as Argo and the Global Drifter Program, provide deployment, calibration, and expanded research opportunities for the oceanographic community. GO-SHIP observations and predecessor programs form core components of data aggregation services such as GLODAP and the WOD/WOA.
In this session, we invite contributions from anyone using or interpreting measurements from large-scale (basin-scale) ship-based observations. These contributions may include model assimilation/validation studies, novel machine learning/AI methods using these data, or interactions with other observing systems.
