Bridging Human and Earth Systems: Modelling approaches, Challenges, and Opportunities

Session Description:
Integrating across Earth system process models and observations in the Anthropocene remains a central challenge in advancing understanding of human-nature interactions. Models of Earth system dynamics, when combined with observational data, are essential tools for assessing environmental change and its implications for human well-being and development. However, this integration remains constrained by a range of scientific, technical, and practical challenges.
This session invites contributions that provide a powerful framework to synthesize complex processes, explore scenarios, and support decision-making under changing environmental conditions. We particularly welcome studies that incorporate human dimensions - such as governance, decision making, and societal responses- while leveraging emerging tools such as machine learning, open data, and engagement with non-scientific communities.
By highlighting both advances and persistent challenges, this session aims to foster cross-disciplinary dialogue and accelerate progress toward more integrated, inclusive, and actionable Earth system science.
