Community-Engaged Pathways Linking Environmental Stressors and Health in Vulnerable and Indigenous Communities

Session Description:
Environmental stressors, including contaminated water, degraded air quality, and climate-driven extremes, disproportionately affect marginalized and Indigenous communities. Yet their health impacts are often inadequately characterized, and solutions are frequently developed without sufficient integration of local knowledge and lived experiences. This session invites contributions that examine links between environmental exposures and community health through community-engaged and participatory research. Studies that integrate environmental monitoring with culturally grounded approaches to assess risks and inform mitigation are encouraged. Contributions exploring solution-oriented approaches, including empathic design of technologies, exposure reduction strategies, and human-centered design frameworks, are especially welcome. This session aims to advance interdisciplinary dialogue bridging environmental science, public health, engineering, and community practice to support equitable and sustainable health outcomes.
