Mobile Air-Quality Laboratories: Applications, Lessons Learned, and Emerging Science

Session Description:
Mobile laboratories equipped with fast-response analyzers (i.e. mass spectrometers, optical spectrometers, low-cost sensors), provide street level spatial resolution of trace level pollutants as well as allow for continuous near-source observations. Mobile platforms provide rare opportunities (1) to assess pollutant levels at emergency response sites (i.e. wildfires, spills) (2) to classify plume and enhancement signatures for source attribution, and (3) to integrate mobile observations with satellites and fixed monitors for quality assurance. Numerous federal, state, academic, and private agencies have built and deployed mobile platforms for evaluating emergency responses and evaluating drives of local pollution. This session invites submissions that examine the development of mobile laboratories; the integration, quality assurance, standardization, and uncertainty of geolocated data; ethical considerations and community engagement; techniques and protocols for emission and source quantification; and findings across urban-to-rural environments.
