Earthquake Processes and Hazards in the Cascadia Subduction Zone

Session Description:
The Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) is one of the most enigmatic and societally impactful plate boundaries globally. It hosts a wide variety of deformation processes that drive regional hazard, including slow slip and tremor, large megathrust and crustal earthquakes, and volcanic unrest.  Recent advances in geophysical, geologic, computational and experimental methods along with dense, novel recording techniques and community datasets permit enhanced characterization of the CSZ across spatiotemporal scales, improving our ability to forecast earthquake and cascading hazards.

We encourage submissions that advance our understanding of the CSZ as a system linking our physical understanding of subduction systems to hazards and societal implications. This includes contributions that leverage data and techniques (e.g., DAS, geologic datasets), computational advances (e.g., machine learning and physics-based simulations), interdisciplinary studies. We welcome holistic work relating to earthquake and cascading hazards, connecting the science to communities, and incorporating equity via methods of inquiry and workforce development.
