Hydrological and Biogeochemical Responses to Disturbances

Session Description:
Disturbances such as droughts, hurricanes, wildfires, and heat waves are increasingly threatening watersheds, ecosystems, agricultural lands,  and energy infrastructure worldwide. These disturbances disrupt hydrological, biogeochemical, and ecohydrological processes, creating complex interactions and cascading effects on water availability and quality, and downstream ecosystems and communities. Understanding the vulnerability, resistance, and resilience of these systems to such disturbances is paramount for designing effective management strategies. We seek contributions that explore how disturbances, including extreme events, alter hydrological and biogeochemical fluxes, flow pathways, and in-stream processes from catchment to global scales. We also encourage submissions that examine the implications for water resources management and ecosystem health, and that offer actionable strategies for predicting and mitigating the impacts of disturbances.
