Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) are land and water management actions aimed at mitigating intersecting environmental and societal threats associated with climate change. The potential for adoption of NBS into policy is governed by the scalability of their impacts and flows of information between scientists and policymakers. Scaling NBS up, out, and deep requires robust science to 1) increase the certainty of NBS outcomes, co-benefits and tradeoffs, 2) spatially prioritize actions, and 3) develop tools that advance monitoring and management across scales. Further, NBS implementation requires sustained communication and cross-sectoral coordination between scientists and policymakers regarding impacts, uncertainties, and dependencies. With some of the most ambitious and comprehensive targets for NBS implementation globally, the State of California has strong interest in supporting science to inform action. We welcome scientists across the NBS spectrum to bring forward initial, lasting, and successful connections that advance research and policy linkages for NBS implementation at scale.
