Coastal Geomorphology and Morphodynamics

Session Description:
Coastal landscapes consist of complex and dynamic landforms whose morphodynamics are influenced by autogenic processes, natural external forcings, climate change, and direct anthropogenic interactions. These processes act on and are recorded in the landscape over a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. By extension, coastal research is expansive, encompassing multiple resolutions, from long-term, broad-scale patterns and short-term, fine-scale dynamics. The 2026 Coastal Geomorphology and Morphodynamics session welcomes contributions from field and remotely sensed observations, emerging monitoring techniques, sedimentological investigations, model development and application, and physical experiments. We especially encourage interdisciplinary submissions that challenge traditional research boundaries, linking coastal geomorphology and morphodynamics with fields like ecology, economics, policy, social sciences, and coastal hazards. We welcome studies across diverse coastal settings, from beaches and barrier islands to rocky coasts, high-latitude shores, coastal dunes, estuaries, deltas, reefs, mangroves, seagrasses, natural and restored marshes, as well as other nature-based solutions to coastal degradation.
