Ground-based networks for monitoring atmospheric chemical composition and meteorology enhance our understanding of local-, regional-, and continental-scale atmospheric processes, as well as long-term trends. These networks inform decisions critical to air quality, climate change, weather forecasting, and human health.

Monitoring networks play a vital role within the research community by providing a foundational dataset that supports modeling, validation of satellite data products, and short-term measurement campaigns. Continued collaboration, communication, and promotion of network developments and data products are essential to fully realize the benefits of these systems.

This session explores how ground-based atmospheric monitoring networks can be leveraged to:

  • promote cross-network and cross-disciplinary engagement
  • develop and test new technologies and sensors
  • advance quality assurance methods and techniques
  • support modeling efforts and satellite data products
