Volcano-climate interaction: from observations to modeling

Session Description:
Volcanic activity plays a key role in modulating atmospheric processes at both regional and global scales. Explosive eruptions, persistent degassing, and aerosol emissions can significantly influence climate dynamics. However, the mechanisms within the coupled atmosphere-ocean system are complex and not yet fully understood, due to computational costs, uncertainties, and data scarcity. This session focuses on forward-looking strategies that leverage multi-source data integration, real-time and advanced modeling, including hybrid, data-driven, and advanced approaches, to enhance our ability to monitor, interpret, and anticipate the climate impacts of volcanic activity.
We welcome contributions that promote interdisciplinarity among satellite observations, in situ measurements, and paleo records with physical models and computational techniques. Emphasis is placed on detecting anomalies, identifying patterns, and quantifying both short- and long-term effects, with advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing.
Case studies of recent or historical major eruptions are particularly encouraged.
