From Melt to Granite: Growth and Post-Emplacement History of the Continental Crust

Session Description:
Continental crust is built, reworked, and preserved through an integrated history of magmatic, metamorphic, and tectonic processes. Silicic magmatic systems and the granitoids they leave behind provide a record of these processes, from magma generation and transport to emplacement, crystallization, and subsequent alteration and deformation. Unraveling this record requires observations across a range of scales, from mineral zoning to batholith formation.
This session invites studies that investigate pluton and batholith assembly as well as those that examine the lifecycle of continental crust. Topics include pre-emplacement histories, mechanisms of magma emplacement, and post-emplacement structural, geochemical, and petrologic evolution. We welcome contributions from a variety of perspectives (e.g., field observations, laboratory analyses, and modeling approaches) drawing on petrology, petrography, geochronology, geochemistry, and petrochemistry. Contributions that explore the role of magmatic to hydrothermal fluids in crustal evolution, as well as studies spanning tectonic settings from orogenic belts to extensional regimes, are encouraged.
