Arctic Coastal Ocean Dynamics: Coupled Processes, Observations, and Models

Session Description:
Arctic coastal zones are critical interfaces between marine, cryospheric, and terrestrial systems. Diverse environmental changes, including rising air and water temperatures, sea ice loss, and changing wave climate, reverberate throughout the interconnected system, with direct and profound impacts on coastal communities and ecosystems. As the Arctic coastal regions rapidly evolve, so, too, does our ability to monitor and model the coupled processes and feedbacks transforming the coastal environment. This session aims to highlight research and methods which advance our understanding of physical processes in the coastal Arctic Ocean, including emerging trends and connections across the coupled air-sea-ice-land and socio-ecological systems. We invite contributions featuring remote sensing, field-based, and modeling analyses, and especially welcome studies leveraging novel monitoring or remote sensing technologies, model-observation synthesis, process studies, and recent field campaigns. Interdisciplinary investigations exploring links between physical drivers and human and ecological systems are particularly encouraged.
