Session Description:
Experiential science education engages learners in building science content knowledge while participating in inquiry, critical thinking, modeling, and investigative practices. Characteristic of experiential learning is the emphasis on conceptual understanding by doing (Carver, 1904; Dewey, 1938). Such innovative instructional approaches may include but are not limited to service-learning; problem-based and project-based learning; mentored research programs; model-based professional development workshops; field-based experiences; community or place-based learning; ocean studies; and immersive sea-going experiences.
This session provides opportunities for faculty, teachers, teacher-educators, Earth and marine science educators, and science education researchers to share evidence-based instructional practices, innovative program models, and pilot program designs.
We welcome presentations of projects that include quantitative results and/or qualitative findings.
