Advancing the Geodesy Workforce: Skills, Training Pathways, and Emerging Applications Across Sectors

Session Description:
Geodesy underpins a wide range of Earth and space science applications, from hazard monitoring and climate research to navigation, infrastructure, and emerging technologies. As demand for geodetic data and analysis grows, so does the need for a skilled and adaptable workforce.

This session invites contributions that examine the evolving skills, training pathways, and workforce needs across academic, government, and commercial sectors. We welcome perspectives on workforce development programs, curriculum design, technical courses, and community-led training efforts, as well as case studies linking geodetic applications to workforce competencies. These may span the full spectrum of opportunities from recruitment, education of students, through upskilling and retention of working professionals.  

Submissions that identify gaps, barriers to entry, or opportunities to expand participation, particularly across career stages and global contexts, are encouraged. This session aims to synthesize community efforts and inform scalable approaches to training the next generation of geodesists.
