Session Description:
The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) Mission, launched successfully on July 30, 2025, began collecting all land and ice-covered surfaces every 12 days from ascending and descending orbit vantage points in early November 2025, and is scheduled to release the global dataset in the summer of 2026. These data will be freely and openly distributed from the NASA Alaska Satellite Facility within days of acquisition. NISAR’s consistent 12-day cadence, global coverage, the potential improvement in coherence from L-band observations, and its unique left-looking observation geometry make it a valuable tool for addressing fundamental questions in geodesy, including surface deformation measurements of processes that drive the earthquake cycle, volcanic inflation, landslides, and groundwater flux. This session invites contributions from those who have started to experiment with early NISAR datasets, evaluating their quality and showcasing early results, with a focus on the potential these data hold for scientific analysis.
