Unveiling Solid Earth structure and Tectonics at both Poles in the roadmap towards the International Polar Year

Session Description:
The Antarctic and Arctic regions preserve key records of plate tectonic processes. But how do cryptic polar domains link to supercontinent cycles and mantle dynamics in both space and time? Can we define the 4D variability in crustal and lithospheric properties, processes and architecture better, thereby also improving estimates of geothermal heat flux heterogeneity and its effects on ice-sheet dynamics? What are the linkages between tectonic and erosional processes and past climate and ice sheet evolution? What effects did ocean gateways have on coupled climate, ocean and ice sheet evolution?

We solicit presentations about crust and lithosphere and geological evolution that address key questions such as these, using seismological and seismic imaging, magnetotellurics, aerogeophysics, satellite and marine geophysics and geological, petrophysical and geodetic studies. We particularly welcome contributions on advancing efforts to unveil the geosphere, including its interactions with cryosphere evolution as part of the International Polar Year 2032–33 roadmap.
